New home for Hedgehog: Kim Dormaar, assistant director of new Metro zoo, holds a hedgehog from Asia, one of 5,000 animals, birds, reptiles and fish which will live in the 700-acre zoo. In order to raise funds for the new zoo, Metro's six mayors and thousands of zoo supporters are today walking 15 miles in hopes of raising $500,000 towards $6 million zoo fund objective. The zoo, being built in northeastern corner of Scarborough, will open next summer.

Super hot dog salesman is Manfred Doblinger president of VS services Ltd., which sold nearly one million hot dogs at Exhibition stadium last year. He may get permission to sell beer this summer but he's not too enthusiastic about the idea. It would be expensive, and - horros - cut down hot dog sales.

The big chill. With his son Glen, 15, ready with tongs, Lionel Core holds one of the bags of ice that will help Metro-area residents through another heat wave. Core's Peel Ice and Fuel Inc. - operated for three generations by his family in Brampton - expects to sell 12 tonnes of ice to the Caribram festival over the weekend.

Solid handlwork: Art Cooke spent the summer of '45 chiseling mortar off old bricks to build the home he and his wife still live in on Burnett Ave. Today, a high-rise looms near the site he bought for $350.
