Toronto Public Library, Earlscourt Branch (renamed Dufferin/St. Clair Branch in 1973), Dufferin Street, east side, between Rosemount Avenue and St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario. Interior. Adult Reading Room, north wing, east wall showing G. A. Reid murals, completed in 1926
Alternative title derived from Toronto Public Library forty-ninth annual report 1932, page 9. Image itself was published on page 17. Erratum on page [3] notes: "Through an unfortunate mishap in the preparation of this Report for printing the legends under the engravings showing the mural decorations on the walls of the Earlscourt Branch Library (pp 9 and 17) became transposed."
Visible here are the murals for “Philosophy” (left, south wall, east end), showing “devotees of thought in profound discussion;” "The Community” (centre, south wall, centre): “Children, youths and maidens are closely seated around a reader who stands leaning against the bole of a tree, while scattered out to the side and front are the more mature members all listening with absorbed interest;” and visible are “Nature Study” (right, south wall, west end).
