Blockhouse, Sherbourne St, east side, opposite former end of Bloor Street East, Toronto, Ontario

Identified in JRR catalogue as Sherbourne Street Blockhouse:
"333-BLOCKHOUSE AT THE HEAD OF SHERBOURNE STREET, TORONTO-This was one of three modern blockhouses (the others being at College st. and Spadina ave., and at Yorkville, east of Yonge st.) which surrounded the city. It stood on the exact line of Bloor street, going east, at the east end of this road, and in the middle just over the steep descent to the valley of the Don, to avoid which precipitous descent the road turned aside southwards towards Sherbourne street. Mr. Hirschfelder's house and grounds were immediately south of this blockhouse. It was built 1837-8. at time of the rebellion troubles, in order to protect the city from the north, and was demolished in 1875. Water color by Henry Perre, of Toronto, 1863. Size 5 x 7."
