Lot 22, Con. 1 East. Yonge St. Newtonbrook Wesleyan Methodist Church, which stood a quarter mile south of Cummer Avenue on the east of side of Yonge. This church was built after a fire completely destroyed the former white brick church in 1888 which had been remodelled in 1887. The church and community were named for Reverend Robert Newton. The congregation moved to a new larger church in 1962 located on Cummer Ave, now known as Cummer Avenue United Church. This photo was taken before 1925, at which point the church joined the United Church, and before the 1931 widening of Yonge St., which necessitated the relocation of the entryway to the side of the church. The building in the photo no longer stands.
