Original Toronto Star caption: Floats fail stranding pilot in high waves. An Oakville pilot was stranded yesterday in high waves off Toronto Island Airport after his vintage plane s pontoons collapsed on landing. Here; harbor police tow the plane to safety. They received a radio distress call at noon from John Stairs. The investment broker was not injured. He was stranded on Lake Ontario in his 1948 Stinson 108 until Toronto Harbor police arrived. An airport mechanic estimated damage at close to $10;000.
