Original Toronto Star caption: Its high; peaked roof collapsed after spectacular blaze; ruins of St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church smoulder and steam under firemen s hoses. Only 50 yards away; separate school; right background; had 900 pupils in it when fire broke out; apparently started by a boiler-room explosion. All were safely evacuated in four minutes. The 10-year-old; modern church was destroyed and damage is estimated at close to $1;000;000. Flames could be seen downtown.
