Original Toronto Star caption: 60 houses destroyed in Markham. Seem for 10 miles; flames and smoke pour from 60 new houses destroyed in a Markham subdivision. Bulldozers were called in to flatten other partly built houses into a firebreak. About 200 neighborhood residents fled their homes when police warned them they could be in danger. No one was injured; but damage was estimated to be at least $1 million; police said.
