Original Toronto Star caption: Nuclear power station operated by Ontario Hydro at Pickering put its first reactor unit into operation last February, and last month it was turning out electricity at 97 per cent of capacity. Canada is alone in building the CANDU (Canada-Deuterium-Uranium) reactors and trying to sell them abroad to other nations. The Pickering site is dominated by the large vacuum building, closest to the lake, and the four reactor buildings and vacuum relief duct behind.
