Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.

Alf Bunker, doesn't charge for rides on his Cherrywood Pickering Railway but his sister, Dorothy, 75, likes to wear a conductor's cap and punch tickets just for the fun of it. Bunker also has been banding wild birds for 20 years.
