Original Toronto Star caption: By Bike; by Broom -- Hippies Fight the cars in Yorkvill. Left: Two hippies; riding tandem on a bike on traffic-clogged Yorkville last night; carry their protest sign past patrolling policeman in second night demonstration. Sign reads: Help Yorkville survive--stop traffic . . . be non-violent. Hippies want street closed to automobile and turned into a pedestrian mall. Centre: Policeman wraps arm around the neck of visitor to street; in a stranglehold; and shoves him toward waiting paddy wagon while two other policemen stand by to help. Right: Barefoot and bearded; James Bundy sweeps the pavement of Yorkville; beside bumper-to-bumper line of cars; as Constable William Burns watches. Sweeping was part of hippie counter-attack to snarl cars police funnelled into area.
