Original Toronto Star caption: These gals give us a real charge: The ladies take an active part in producing dry cell batteries at the Davenport Rd. plant of Union Carbide Canada?s Consumer Products Group. Some 3;000;000 batteries for flashlights and radios in three sizes are produced monthly. At left is the finished product ready for final packing; Mrs. Donald Jessop (centre) who has worked at plant for 20 years helps operate machine that rams mixture of managangese dioxide and acetylene black into zinc cans to give batteries their charge. At right; Mrs. Dean McGowan cuts casings from zinc tubes for small-size batteries.
