Original Toronto Star caption: 'Looney' coin ready for market; Vera Sumwaru; cashier supervisor at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce branch at Commerce Court; has a fistful of dollars - looney dollars; that is. The newly minted dollar coins have arrived for the July 1 launch. The coin features a Canadian loon and is only slightly heavier and larger than the 25 cent coin. It will replace the dollar bill; which will be phased out by the end of 1989. The loon design was selected after the original dies were lost by a courier service enroute to Winnipeg from Ottawa. The loss meant a change in design from a voyageur.
