Original Toronto Star caption: Asbestos plant workers at Matachewan cheer at midnight when they learn Ontario government has ordered the $33 million United Asbestos plant closed for health reasons. They began picketing plant in former gold-mining town; 58 miles west of Kirkland Lake; last Thursday after complaining of company inaction to take clean-up steps it had promised. Town has been in a turmoil since February when it was claimed plant's 180 workers were endangered.
