Notes
Elizabeth Yee Ching Wong, née Szetu, was born in Guangdong province, China. The photo is of young Elizabeth Yee Ching Szetu (left) with a friend.

In 1938, Elizabeth Szetu married William Wai Ching Wong, a community leader and advocate for the Chinese community in Toronto. With an interest-free loan from members of the Chinese community, the couple bought their first home at 66 St. George Street. In addition to raising their family there, they converted the property into a rooming house, hosting foreign students of the University of Toronto, usually of Jewish, South Asian or Chinese heritage. Mrs. Wong became a real estate agent and was active in the community advocating for women’s rights.
