Elizabeth Yee Ching Wong, née Szetu, was born in Guangdong province, China. The photo is of young Elizabeth Yee Ching Szetu (left) with a friend. 

She and married William Wai Ching Wong in 1938. In Toronto, members of the Chinese community provided Wong with an interest-free loan to buy the couple’s first home at 66 St. George Street. In addition to raising their family there, they converted the property into a rooming house, hosting foreign students of the University of Toronto, usually of Jewish, South Asian or Chinese heritage.
