Inscribed in pen & ink, l.r.: C H J Snider; In pencil, vso: STR "MAID OF THE MIST" 1854 / This small steamer of 30 tons second of the name...through the whirlpool rapids to Lewiston... Probably after a wood engraving " 'The Maid of the Mist,' Running 'The Rapids.' " in Canadian Illustrated News, Hamilton, 5 September 1863, p. 198 bottom; a photograph, col. with w.c., of the wood engraving is Acc. JRR 1219. Later re-named Maid of Orleans, running between Quebec and Ile d'Orléans. See Snider notes.
