Foolscap, full vellum by Speals; holograph title page, titled and signed; about 3600 words with corrections and amendments, all by Doyle; signed again at the end ("Arthur Donan Doyle, Windlesham, Crowborough"), and a third time in the upper left corner of front cover with the title. An old auction description laid in notes, that this item was first sold at the Baker-Kennedy Sale, A.A.A., 1/30-31/23, thru Gabriel Wells, 2/2/23.

The story originally appeared in the Strand Magazine (Sept. 1910), and was collected in "The Last Galley : impressions and tales" (London : Smith, Elder and Co., 1911) as "The marriage of the Brigadier."
