"The present small volume forms the first of a series of works, entitled 'Chambers's library for young people, ' which will consist principally of moral and religious tales likely to influence the conduct and feelings of youth. The present, a story of self-denial, has been obligingly written for the series by Miss Edgeworth"--preface signed: W.C. [i.e., William Chambers]. A temperance story, written for the benefit of the Irish Poor Relief Fund. Metal-engraved frontispiece plate signed by George Millar.
