From Braun and Hogenberg's Civitates Orbis Terrarum ; Dutch and latin text on verso. These views were the only two American views in Braun & Hogenberg's Civitates Orbis Terrarum, the most influential book of town views from the 16th century. These city views are among the earliest printed views of any city in the Americas. A view of Mexico City showing the city when it was Tenochtitlan (Aztec capital) on the still undrained Lake Texcoco, connected by many walkways to the mainland. In the background, Cuzco, Peru is depicted as an orderly city (Inca capital), with a great palace at the outside. Both city views include Indigenous scenes at the front of the image
