JRR611 James Scott Howard - Postmaster, York (Toronto), 1827-38 - born at Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland, in 1798 of Huguenot ancestry. At the age of twenty-one he left Ireland, accompanying Chief Justice Sullivan to Canada, and settling in Fredericton, N.B. Later he removed to York (Toronto), where he held office under the Hon. William Allan, surer of the Home District, 1842, and subsequently of the Counties of York and Peel. He was also for several years a corresponding secretary of the U.C. Bible Society. Died 1866. Water color. Head and shoulders. From Landmarks of Canada.
