Dialogues on plants and animals are interspersed with two moral tales and conversations on "what is a gentleman?" and "on friendship".
The engraved frontispiece is dated Aug. 1, 1810.
The story "Good brought out of evil" tells how a little boy was stolen by thieves who hoped to train him as an accomplice, and how he escaped from them. In this story, it is mentioned that children are stolen from their parents by chimney sweepers and that a society has been formed to inspect the conduct of masters towards chimney sweep boys (p. 25-26).
