In 1951 the North American Indian Club formed, partnering with the Toronto Central YMCA, located on College Street, between Bay Street and Yonge Street.
The non-Indigenous children depicted here, were exposed to the native culture, sharing the same space at the YMCA. On April 4, 1962 the Canadian Indian Centre of Toronto received its patent letters of incorporations and in January 1963 the Centre's first location was rented at 603 Church Street. In February of 1972, the Centre underwent an official name change to the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto.
