Illustrated by Daniel Innes for the book Denison Avenue (ECW, 2023). Denison Avenue by Christina Wong and Daniel Innes is a moving story about aging in place, grief, and vulnerable Chinese Canadian elders set in Toronto’s gentrifying Kensington Market and Chinatown, told in illustration and fiction.
This image (234 Augusta Ave. (Dolce Gelato) [60b]) and 234 Augusta Ave. (Dolce Gelato) [60a] were the first drawings made for the book.

The grocery store has been replaced with a Dolce Gelato store. The store has since been renovated so that the building's doors and windows stretch out to where the produce displays and awnings used to be. A person in the foreground rummages through the recycling and garbage bins in front of Dolce Gelato with a cart in tow.
