Christian endurance ; and The changes of life

First published separately in 1848 and 1849 under the titles: Orphan captive; or, Christian endurance and Widow and orphans: or, Change of life.

Christian endurance is based on the true story of the shipwreck and enslavement by Moors of Victoraine de Bourke, the fourteen-year-old daughter of the Ambassador of the French court in Madrid. In the preface, the author says she followed closely the facts found in an old book, Account of shipwrecks and disasters at sea.
