An account of the Seven Years' War in America. January 16,1757-September 20, 1759.

The author was an officer in His Majesty's [48th] regiment serving in America. He spent the winter of 1757 in Fort William Henry and sailed to Halifax for theprojected attack on Louisbourg in June 1757. He returned to New York in Augustand set out immediately for Albany. He took part in the siege of Louisbourg inJune 1758 and in September returned to Boston and marched with Amherst to Albany.
The winter of 1758-59 he spent with his regiment in Connecticut. Because of ill health he did not take part in the attack on Quebec and for the last part of the war he copied letters, despatches, etc. as they appeared in print in England. Details are given of army organization and military events, particularly of the scouting party of Rogers and his Rangers to Ticonderoga in January 1757, the French attack on Fort William Henry in March 1757, and the siege of Louisbourg.

The volume was intended for publication and instructions were given to a Mr. Pote for its completion. It was sold to the library in 1886 by the booksellers, Kerr & Richardson, Glasgow, under the title "History of the war, 1757-1759. By a Scotch officer-an Eye-Witness."
