Acts relating to the North-west Territories, being statutes of Canada, 38 Vic., chap. 49, "An act to amend and consolidate the laws respecting the North-west Territories," and 40 Vic., chap. "An act to amend the North-west Territories Act, 1875."

In 1870, the Hudson's Bay Company sold its North-Western Territory and Rupert's Land to Canada. The area comprising over twenty million acres was to be known as the North-West Territories, with the exception of the portion that forms the Province of Manitoba, and was to be administered by the Canadian federal government. The statutes of 1875 and 1977, establish form of government, legislation and administration of the Territories.
