Original Toronto Star caption: Howling winds leave their mark; Vicious winds gusting up to 100 kilometres (60 m.p.h) an hour lashed through most of Ontario yesterday; blowing heavy snow and closing roads by the dozen; although Metro escaped the worst of it. A Rawlinson Ave. family; in the Yonge St.-Eglinton Ave. area was particularly fortunate that the huge tree in their front yard didn't land on the roof when it toppled in the wind; firefighters at the scene said. The tree nicked the house and knocked down a hydro wire. It also put quite a dent in the fence. While most pedestrians dressed warmly to brave the weather. Milly; a 6-year-old sheepdog; was protected by her shaggy coat as she waited patiently for her master on the sidewalk in the Broadview Ave.-Dundas St. E. area.
