Original Toronto Star caption: A chip off the old block; Woodcarver Joe Dampf is displaying At The Game; a bleached mahogany sculpture of three of his children. Dampf; who started carving 15 years ago; calls himself an amateur; but that merely explains that while his work is first class; he doesn't sell it. He describes his three-dimensional family portraits as classical sculpture adapted to wood; noting that the traditional method for making a life-size bust is from marble or bronze. Wood is a lot warmer; he says.
