Original Toronto Star caption: A young East Indian in Toronto whose father died mere hours before they were to immigrate to Canada 18 months ago; has been told he must return to India ? because his father's death made his visa worthless. Sadik Mukadam; now 24; had been included as a dependant because he was under 21 when a married sister in Toronto filed the sponsorship application on their behalf in 1981. Their visas weren?t issued until the summer of 1983 and father and son were to travel to Toronto on Sept. 7 that year. But only 11 hours before their departure; the father suffered a fatal heart attack. He died in his son?s arms as they got to a Bombay hospital.
