Original Toronto Star caption: About 50;000 people line University Ave. Saturday to watch costumed marchers and dancers and 15 bands and floats kicking off Caribana '74 festival with a parade to Toronto Island ferry docks. The three-hour parade; throbbing with the calypso beat of the steel bands; attracted many spectators from sidelines to join in fun. The festival on the Island doesn't wind down officially until 9 p.m. today.
