Original Toronto Star caption: Islands of ice choke the Credit River; Huge chunks of ice pile up on the Credit River just south of the Britannia Road bridge near Streetsville yesterday; dwarfing the children who play there despite warnings from the Credit Valley Conservation Authority that it's extremely dangerous. The long mild spell caused the big blocks of ice to be carried down the river by flooding water; which heaped them up along the banks. Some of the larger ice islands are two feet thick; 20 to 30 feet long and 10 feet across. They'll last for a while: The present cold; clear weather is expected to grip the area all this week.
