Original Toronto Star caption: Benares dates from 1857 and has been given to the Ontario Heritage Foundation by its present owners; Geoffrey Sayers and his sisters; Dora Caro and Barbara Larson. They are descendents of the builder; James Beveridge Harris. Author Mazo de la Roche grew up in the Clarkson area near Benares and later built her famous Jalna novels around it. The house; constructed of mottled yellow and red bricks has never undergone changes.
