Original Toronto Star caption: Old vs. new: The massive lift locks on the Trent Canal at Peterborough were the world's largest concrete structure when they were built in 1904. They lift boats up to 19.81 metres (65 feet); bypassing rapids on the Otonobee River which runs through the city; bisecting the nearly new campus of Trent University.
