Original Toronto Star caption: Getting ready for world's tallest structure. From this hole in the ground; 250 feet wide and 30 feet below the level of Lake Ontario; will rise the world's tallest self-supporting structure. Located just south of Front St. and east of John St. in downtown Toronto; the 1;805-foot CN Tower will be the centrepiece of the planned $1 billion Metro Centre. Completion date of the tower is expected in late 1974 or early 1975. At the 1;100-foot level a six-storey pod will house a restaurant and two observation decks.
