Original Toronto Star caption: 'A human housing project'. The Toronto Housing Corporation residential project in Riverdale is hard to find and familiar to relatively few Torontonians. In fact; the pianners of present-day government-subsidized housing projects should become better acquainted with it; says Prof. Arthur. Located at 86 Bain Ave. betwee Broadview and Logan; the project was built by a group of wealthy private philanthropists in 1913 and is the earliest example of deliberate mass low-in-come housing in Canada. It still has many things to teach anyone involved in low-rental housing; Prof. Arthur says; and its standrads are the more remarkable because it was built before any legislation governing housing existed in Canada.
