Original Toronto Star caption: Cars will never travel this stretch of the Spadina Expressway following the Ontario cabinet's rejection of completion of the $237 million expressway today. Looking south in this picture the unfinished roadbed of the Spadina Expressway; which ends at Eglinton Ave.; will not be paved and completed. But while cabinet refused to approve completing expressway; it approved building rapid transit.

It has to be widened, says Metro traffic commissioner Sam Cass of the Don Valley Parkway as he stands on footbridge crossing it at Riverdale Zoo. Planners estimate it will cost $15 million to widen parkway an extra two lanes, and it's not the right solution adds Cass. In addition, two other street widening programs will cost another $9 million. Cass blames halting of the Spadina Expressway.
