Original Toronto Star caption: A Bush Negro village on the Morowijne River in Surinam is much like West African villages where the ancestors of these people were abducted long ago. The Bush Negroes are descendants of slaves who fled to the jungles of Surinam, then Dutch Guiana, and resumed their tribal lifestyle, complete with African languages, customs, drums and dances. They were never recaptured nor subdued by Westerners.
