Original Toronto Star caption: Opening day: visitors at the new Metro Zoo included Metro Chairman Paul Godfrey with 4-year-old Jennifer Grant (left) and her sister Catherine, 6, in crowd of up to 10,000 children and their parents enjoying a sneak preview before the public opening on Aug. 15. The crowd was delighted with the big, ultra-modern zoo in Scarborough, even though the many bulldozers were roaring louder than the lions.
