Craig Pittam (left) and Wally Schmidt of the Argonaut Rowing Club's five-member ice-canoe team limber up for the forthcoming Ontario team challenge race, an endurance test, at Harbourfront Jan. 21. Teams race the 300-pound, 24-foot craf over a 3-mile course, paddling through frigid waters and draging the canoes across any frozen stretches they may encounter. Starting at the Harbour Castle Hilton, racing teams cross Toronto harbor to Toronto Island and the Island Airport, and finish at Pier 4.
