Original Toronto Star caption: Miinister Defies Nazis. The Rev. Martin Niemoeller, Protestant pastor, who joined the Catholics, June 8, in an attack against the Reich's stand on religion, when as presiding pastor of the confessional synod, in a militarist sermon he derived attempts to discredit the Christian concept of repentance and to substitute for it a heroic attitude, as though there was only one possible attitude for a German to assume to-day - that of Prometheus, or Lucifer, the pose of a defiant Triton.
