Gift of sight: Mornine Poonah, 56, was blind in one eye, and had only 1 per cent vision in the other, before an operation last year by mississauga ophthalmologist Dr. Brian Newbigin. Now she has 25 per cent vision in one eye, which is improving steadily as she becomes accustomed to her glasses.

Business booming: Allan Cohen of Grant's Jewellers on Church St. with some of the items that he has bought recently. One man brought in an exquisite emerald he'd paid $34,000 (U.S.) for 2 1/2 years ago. Cohen bought it - for a third of that. I'm looking for a 10 to 15 per cent profit on the stone, Cohen says.
