Original Toronto Star caption: Fixing a 23-foot-deep pothole. A sewer break under Dufferin St. at Liberty St.; just south of King; may have averted a serious accident: Workmen starting to fix it found that sand between the surface and the sewer pipe; 23 feet below; had washed away; leaving the surface held in place only by the streetcar tracks. The sub-surface concrete had been dropped on the sewer; breaking it. Manuel Denobrega (left) and Antonio Campote of Cliffside Pipelayers Ltd. were at work there today with their pneumatic drills.
