Original Toronto Star caption: Atop aerial ladder; a fireman continues to pour water on the fire at Ashland Oil Canada s chemical plant despite a drum of volatile solvent exploding and sending a fireball up beside him. Drums took off like rockets and shot 100 feet in the air. They burst into thousands of pieces and their lids whizzed past firemen to land as far as 1;200 feet away. Everyone within a square mile was evacuated for fear of an even more massive explosion in the Eglinton-Dufferin area.
