Original Toronto Star caption: Cold duck freed from the ice. Rescuing ducks and Canada geese frozen in the ice at the foot of Spadina Ave.; Dale Griffin; 22; carries a mallard he had hacked out of the ice. He took it to the shore; where the Toronto Humane Society picked it up. Boats could not make it through the ice to the trapped birds; so Griffin was flown out by helicopter.
