Original Toronto Star caption: Historic graveyard at the Batoche battlefield in northern Saskatchewan is the final resting place for some prairie pioneers who took part in the Riel Rebellion of 1885. Riel was captured here after the defeat of his Metis army. His commander-in-chief; Gabriel Dumont; escaped; later returned and is buried here.
