Peter Schlemihl

A poetic address "To my old friend, Peter Schlemihl" by the author is dated from Berlin, August, 1834, and his letter to Hitzig is dated from Kunersdorf, 27 Sept., 1813.

An introduction, in the form of a letter from Fouqué to Edward Hitzig, is dated from Neunhausen, May 31, 1814, another, from Edward Hitzig to Fouqué, is dated from Berlin, January, 1827.

The "Preface to third edition" by the translator is dated January, 1861.

The first German edition, published in 1813, was edited by Baron de la Motte-Fouqué.

The two previous editions of this first English translation appeared in 1824.
