The devil upon two sticks

In this satire, the dastardly Asmodeus, king of the demons, is imprisoned in a bottle. Freed by a young aristocrat, Don Cleofas, he assists his rescuer in a series of pranks around Madrid. He also grants the man the superhuman power of flight, which the man uses to spy on others. The novel depicts fictionalized versions of Parisian celebrities of the era. It is an English translation of a French novel.
