Golden Mile Branch opened at 29 Civic Road by the Township of Scarborough Public Library Board in December 1955 ; the branch was formally opened in January 1956 by Angus Mowat, the Ontario Provincial Library Inspector. The library was housed in a 14- x 22-foot room that during the Second World War had been part of a fuse-filling munitions factory known as GECO (General Engineering Company). The library's reserve, overdue and bookmobile departments also were housed at 29 Civic Road.
