Anchor aground: An old anchor looms in the foreground and mist rises off the water as Toronto harbor gets an early foretaste of the quiet days of winter. The harbor was busier this year than last; but things slow down to a crawl when winter really takes hold and the St. Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal close for the season. Shipping usually stops at the end of December.

Touch of spring in the air. Maintenance man Cliff Cruise checks lines holding lakers Seaway Queen and Canadian Century at Pier 35 at the foot at Cherry St. Lakers will get under way near the end of March or the first week of April; depending on the weather.
