Original Toronto Star caption: Metal plant blaze: Clouds of smoke billowed up from a fire at the I. Waxman and Sons metal processing plant in Stoney Creek yesterday. Because of the fear that toxic fumes might be created by the burning materials; about 1;000 people were asked to evacuate their homes and businesses; but most ignored the request. Company officials said they don t know how the blaze began; but it was confined to about 40 barrels of airplane parts; filings and dust.
